Can foreign students help balance our state's budget?

How much do foreign students bring into Hawaii’s economy? According to guest speaker Dr. Joel Weaver, Director of the Hawaii English Language Program-HELP at the University of Hawaii, their net contribution to our local economy nets at more than $160 million in tuition, fees, room and board. Now that’s something to think about.

(Joel assisted Nancy Walden in coordinating FLO student Phearun Chhorn’s visa and enrollment into UH. Nancy described Phearun’s excitement at attending UH, “Everyday I have homework! I’m learning!”)
